Mapping Out Your Mailings For The Month

By now you have a general plan of what you want to accomplish this month, a general idea of how often you want to mail, and the content strategy you mapped out yesterday. All of this information combined will make it easy to get through today’s task – creating a mailing calendar for yourself.

This calendar will make it easy to stay on top of your tasks. With the schedule in hand you can wake up in the morning, grab your coffee, glance at your calendar, and get to work crafting your email. Which brings up a good point. Email marketing is a high value task. That means making the time to sit down and write that email is one of the most profitable things you can do that day. Make sure you make the time for it. Do it early in the day when your mind is fresh and give it your best effort.

Let’s get back to creating the mailing calendar. Depending on how often you decide to mail and how far you like to plan ahead, you want to create one for the week, for two weeks, or for a month. Some very organized individuals will plan out even further than that, but if you’re working with others and promoting their products, a month is probably as far out as you want to create your calendar.

Start with the blank calendar and use what you’ve decided when we talked about email frequency to find out how many emails you need to create for your time frame. This is also a great time to decide when you want to send out a solo email, when you want to share pure content, and when you want to combine content with an offer. Refer to your content strategy as you make those decisions.

You will also use the content strategy when you start to decide on the topic for each email. As you make those decisions put it into your calendar. If you will write a solo email or include an offer, put down the link you’ll use in the email. This could be a redirected affiliate link, or a link to your own sales page. If you are sharing content on your blog, include the link to your blog post. If you’re inviting readers to interact on a social media account, include that link. You get the idea. The main idea behind the calendar is to take the guess work out of email marketing and get you up and running as quickly and easily as possible. Having these links in your calendar means you don’t have to go hunt them down while you’re composing your email.
